Mother of Separated Conjoined Twins Thanks ‘Heroes’

The mother of the conjoined twins who were surgically separated in New York City was very thankful to the doctors whom she considered as heroes.

The mother of the conjoined 13-month-old twins expressed her heartfelt thanks to the true heroes of the operation who separated her babies.

Jadon and Anias McDonald were successfully separated by the surgeons and hospital staff on Friday morning after more than 16 hours of surgery at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in The Bronx.

After the very long surgery, their mother Nicole, posted a lengthy, heartfelt thank you online in order to give praise to the “true heroes” of the story.

“As absolutely humbled as I am for all of the encouraging messages I’ve received, it’s hard for me to take any credit for the miracle that these boys are,” she wrote on Facebook. “All I did was birth beautiful, unique children and love them with all I have.”

“The real heroes of this story are the people who have put countless hours, days and months into the success of today,” McDonald continued.

She is dedicating the post to surgeon Dr. James Goodrich, plastic surgeon Dr. Oren Tepper and their assistants, together with the anesthesiologists, pediatric ICU staff and those who donated to their family to make the surgery possible.

Today, the babies are recovering at Montefiore, an institution their mom said “is not a hospital; it’s a community.”

Nicole also noted that she has been the focus of much of the media attention for their story. “Maybe because I cry a lot, so it’s good entertainment.”

Aside from the medical staff, she thanked God, who she said “has guided every single step of this process, bringing together the perfect group of people to make a miracle happen.”

The operation, called a craniopagus surgery, was headed by Dr. James Goodrich, was just the 59th ever performed in the world since 1952.
