Red tide alert still up in 5 Eastern Visayas bays.
Red tide toxins remain in five bays in Eastern Visayas. BFAR urged the local government to enforce an existing shellfish ban in the place.
According to a report, Due to the contamination, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources issued an advisory for the public to avoid eating or selling shellfish.
People are warned by the authorities that all types of shellfish are positive for red tide toxins. The report was confirmed by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Director Juan Albaladejo.
Albaladejo urged the people who are near at the affected waters not to sell or eat shellfish because they are all positive for the red tide toxins.
According to a recent news report of Interaksyon, the contamination has persisted for several months now in Irong Irong and Cambatutay Bays in Samar; Carigara Bay in Leyte; the coastal waters of Leyte, Leyte; and Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar.
