Duterte Set To Sign Executive Order In Abolishing Negros Island
Executive Order (EO) for the abolition of Negros Island Region (NIR) was set to sign by President Rodrigo Duterte, according to a cabinet member said on Tuesday (October 11, 2016).
In an Interview in Malacañang Palace on Tuesday, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno told the reporters that the EO on the NIR does not include in the budget anymore, so it will be abolished as soon as the president will sign.
Diokno said that it would cost at least ‘P19 billion’ from the government budget as he was requested by various agencies for the region. He also said that they have other priorities rather than the region because the expenses were not affordable.
The services in the Negros provinces would be affected by the EO, is the primary concern of the budget secretary. The president made up his mind and raised an issue of abolishing the NIR before their last Cabinet meeting.
