The local government of Makati has launched its clean-up drive to clear the streets from any sort of obstruction.
Makati is one of the booming cities in the country and with its growth is the dense obstruction in its city streets which makes it hard for the pedestrians to walk through.
The local government of Makati has launched a drive to clear the city’s sidewalks and make the streets “walkable” for the people.
The Department of Environmental Services (DES), through its Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD), has acted on the orders of Mayor Abigal “Abby” Binay to clear their streets.
After a couple of months, the DES-SWMD has cleared a total of seventy-eight (78) streets through the conduct of sidewalk recovery operations in different barangays in the city.
Binay has called on barangay officials to cooperate with the tasked agency in eliminating all kinds of obstructions from the streets. The lady mayor reminded them of their duty to ensure that cleared sidewalks and streets are regularly maintained.
“As government officials, we must all make a conscious effort to promote walkable streets for the safety of our residents and the general public”, Mayor Binay said. “Sidewalk vendors and street vendors, for instance, should not be allowed to proliferate in our city”, she added.
