Senator De Lima believes something worst is gonna happen.
Senator Leila De Lima is now gearing herself up for the worst case scenario and more attacks from Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and his allies.
De Lima said that despite her appeal to the president to refrain from attacking her, she knows Duterte will not yield to it.
The lady senator said that the ruining of her name and reputation has already started and there is a great possibility that more hurting words and things will be thrown to her.
What saddens De Lima the most is the dragging of her family and loved ones to the attacks.
Senator De Lima admits that there are people and groups who show concern to her from whom she pulls strength from.
But while Senator De Lima has become teary-eyed as she was calling the attacks against her as foul, the chief executive maintains his firm in the issue.
Unlike Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to whom Duterte has immediately asked for an apology for the harsh words, the president will not say sorry to De Lima.
Malacanan emphasized that it would be better for De Lima to just answer if the allegations of Duterte were true.
Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said in a press conference that De Lima neither confirmed nor denied the information disclosed by Duterte regarding her driver who allegedly served as her lover and bagman of campaign funds last election.
Panelo said Duterte has nothing to say sorry for because it was the senator who started the mudslinging.
For the last six years, De Lima has been fond of linking then Mayor Duterte to the Davao Death Squad (DDS) but has never filed any complaint.
The president earlier said that he has heard about De Lima’s attacks to his character but remained silent because of her being a woman.
Duterte emphasized that if De Lima throws insult, she will receive the same. But if she can manage to lie, the president will tell the truth.
“President Duterte’s statement on Senator De Lima’s demeanor as a public official is a continuation of his report to the people on the state of the nation. As the Supreme Court puts it, the naming of PRRD of the government officials involved in the illegal drug trafficking and coddling is an information and not an accusation hence the remarks of PRRD on Sen. De Lima is an information reported to the nation on the questionable behavior of a public official. The question that the good senator should respond to is: Is the information given by President Duterte on her true or not? In her press conference she called she did not deny nor refute the information. Character assassination predicates the adverse information on the conduct of a person as being false. For six (6) years Sen De Lima has disparaged the reputation of PRRD as being behind the Davao Death Squads but during her stint as sa Chairman of The Human Rights Commission and Secretary of Justice she never filed any criminal complaint against PRRD. As an official policy PRRD welcomes any investigation by any entity or any branch of the government on the extra-judicial killings as in fact he has directed the PNP to investigate the same. PRRD will not allow or tolerate any salvaging of any citizen,” said Panelo.
