Alaminos City in Pangasinan is cutting off its Bangus production for oyster culture.
PANGASINAN – Alaminos City is no longer set for ‘bangus’ culture and will move for an oyster culture instead for some ecological reasons.
The city has been known as one of the best sources of milkfish or in native term, we call it ‘bangus’. But recently, a report in Inquirer announced that the city is no longer going for ‘bangus’ culturation.
According to Mayor Arturo Celeste, the city mayor of Alaminos, they are moving for productions which, as he said, “clean the marine ecosystem”.
With the goal to preserve the nature specifically the water resources and the seas in Alaminos, the fourth-class city will be culturing oysters and mussels or tulya and tahong respectively in native terms.
Oysters and mussels are said to be janitors of the sea and its raising is in line with the conservation of the seas in Alaminos as the report entails that according to the mayor, the seas were already polluted due to the feeds fed in ‘bangus’ culture.
