Iligan Congressman, Former Mayor Declared Guilty by the Ombudsman

Former Mayor Lawrence Cruz of Iligan City, including a congressman and 11 former councilors are found guilty of grave misconduct. The Office of the Ombudsman declared the accused guilty.

According to R.A 7877 which was passed on March 5, 1995, Grave Misconduct has been defined as an intentional wrongdoing or a deliberate violation of a rule of law or standard of behavior, especially by a government official.

Misconduct is grave where the elements of corruption, clear intent to violate the law or flagrant disregard of established rule are present

In 2014, the City Administrator Dexter Sumaoy accused the former mayor and the 11 councilors. They were accused when they leased a property without submitting to public bidding.
