The poll body says Barangay and SK voter’s registration ends on July 30.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reiterates that it will not extend the July 30 deadline of the voter’s registration period for the 2016 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The poll body’s chairman, Andres Bautista, said that an extension on the registration will impact their preparations for the Project of Precincts (POPs) which contain data on the number of established precincts, respective number of registered voters, and their voting centers.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez also said on Tuesday (July 26) that there will be no extension for the registration which started last July 15 and is set to end on July 30, Saturday, and the registrants have to make it before the last day to avoid long lines on their respective Comelec offices.
“Last day of voter registration for #BSKE2016 is on Saturday. Expect long lines so please be there as early as you can.”, Jimenez told the press.
Targeted registrants age 15 to 30 for the Katipunan ng mga Kabataan (KK) or youth federation which is the elective body for the SK officials or the youth council and 18 years old and up for the regular Barangay elections, including those who were not able to vote last May 9 Local and Presidential elections.
Those aging 18 to 24 are eligible to run for SK while the age requirement for regular barangay positions, which is 18 years old and above, remain.
But aside from the age requirement, the Comelec reminds the public that one can only vote for SK and Barangay elections if he is a Filipino, a resident of the Philippines for at least one year and lives in his barangay for at least six months.
The Comelec recently raised concerns the Filipino attitude on applying for registration to be able to vote on the upcoming election.
