Mysterious onions were found by the Bureau of Customs in containers set for garlic shipping.
Mysterious onions were found by the Bureau of Customs in the midst of garlic shipping containers in Manila International Container Port, July 25, 2016.
In a Phil Star report, BOC said that out of 88 abandoned shipping containers at the Port, there were at least 7 that were found with onions – the containers were supposedly set for garlic shipping only.
An estimated amount of $616,000 was calculate by the deputy commissioner for Intelligence Group, Jessie Dellosa.
It is said in the report that the BOC has already opened up 10 shipping containers out of the 88 at the Port and they found 7 shipping containers which contained red and white onions.
According to Dellosa, some of the onions found were kept in refrigerated containers. Refrigeration is supposed to slow down the decaying process of onion yet some were already rotten when found.
Referring to the Great Light Trading and San Fred Trading, deputy commissioner said that the two consignees has no permit to import onions in the country. They were only given the permit to import garlic.
