Leni Robredo might lose the Vice Presidential seat.
Outgoing Camarines Sur representative Leni Robredo is in danger of losing the vice presidential position after her political party, Liberal Party (LP), failed to submit their statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on June 8.
Leni Robredo was able to submit her SOCE on time, but the LP and the former presidential candidate Mar Roxas failed to meet the deadline of submission.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told GMA News that if a political party failed to file the SOCE, its members might lose their respective positions position.
“Nakalagay sa batas na kapag hindi nakapag-file ‘yung political party, ‘yung mga candidates na ‘yun hindi rin makakaupo. That’s what the law says right now and it’s also in the resolution. As you can imagine, that might have far-reaching consequences,” he said.
Barry Gutierrez, the campaign spokesperson of LP, said that they are preparing the papers for Mar Roxas. Their camp also asked for the 14-day extension to submit their SOCE.
However, Comelec Resolution No. 9991 Section 10 states that: “The 08 June 2016 deadline shall be final and non-extendible. Submissions beyond this period shall not be accepted.”
Six senators under the LP were proclaimed recently, including senator Franklin Drilon, who did not file his individual SOCE. Hundreds of local officials under the administration party might not get their position also.
Jimenez added that the Comelec will still discuss the matter if they will let Robredo and other LP winning candidates to assume the office.
