What Really Happened Before the Controversial “Catcalling” Incident

The outgoing Mayor of Davao City and newly-elected President Rodrigo Duterte made headlines anew on various news media outlets in the country about his controversial “catcalling” which was allegedly intended for GMA7 news reporter Mariz Umali, but what really happened before the incident remained unreported on national media.

What Really Happened Before the Controversial Catcalling Incident:

One of Mayor Rody Duterte’s supporters on social media, a parody account of Brod Pete explained what really happened before the controversial incident and noted on his explanations that Mayor Duterte was simply using the last few minutes of the press conference to lighten the atmosphere of the first ever press conference of Mayor Rody Duterte as President of the Philippines.

Some news media in the Philippines sensationalized the expressions of Mayor Rody Duterte on the alleged catcalling of a certain news reporter, Mariz Umali. The reporter already released an official statement that she was not hurt with the incident and didn’t expect an apology from the mayor.

The husband of Mariz Umali, fellow journalist Raffy Tima posted on his official Facebook account that “catcalling” his wife Mariz Umali on national TV is “wrong in so many levels.” Raffy Tima expressed his dismay, saying that for someone who holds the highest post in the land, what Duterte did “defies logic.”

Some netizens and supporters of Mayor Rody Duterte defended the president-elect on his latest statement even on national TV and lambasted some of the bias news media organizations in the Philippines just sensationalized the incident so that the focus of the Duterte administration will be derailed by his opponents and non-supporters who until today couldn’t accept their defeat against a lowly mayor from Mindanao.
