Popular Filipino rapper Gloc-9 admitted during an interview with the media that he is ready to retire anytime. The revelations of the rapper whose music is often socially conscious and relevant that made a mark on listeners, was made after nearly 20 years in the music industry.
Gloc-9 is one of the original member of the group Death Threat in the mid-90’s who went solo with his career. He already received over 40 awards from different award-giving bodies in the Philippines, including Awit Awards, MYX Music Awards and PMPC Star Awards for Music.
The rapper was quoted as saying during the interview “God has given me a lot already, wala na akong maire-reklamo. Kapag binalikan ko ang lahat ng dinasal ko nung ako ay nagsisimula pa lang, hindi man Niya ito sinagot sa oras na gusto ko, pero definitely sa tamang oras, lahat ‘yon ay sinagot,” he said.
According to the 38-year-old Gloc-9 before he leaves the music industry he wants to make a song to seal his legacy and which people will always remember. When asked of what will be his last song, Gloc-9 said: “My Story.”
“Yun lang ang hiling ko palagi, na makatisod ng isang song, na maisulat ko na matatandaan ng maraming tao. Sana kapag dumating na ‘yung panahon na kailangan ko ng ibaba ang mikropono ay pwede ko nang ikuwento naman ‘yung kwento ko talaga, para marinig ng mga gusto din na sumunod,” Gloc-9 said.
Gloc-9 became controversial during the campaign period of the Philippine national and local elections when he was seen during a campaign period performing in an event organized by VP Jojo Binay. Some netizens lambasted his decision of promoting VP Binay becuase of the numerous allegations against the Vice President which is contrary to the songs he was written and performed in the music industry.
The rapper denied the issue of promoting VP Binay and noted on his Facebook Page that he was not promoting Binay because he has yet to decide on whom to support during the election.
Gloc-9 will also be officially launching the album, along with special guests, on June 5 at Market! Market!, where fans can first get the physical copy of the album. “Sukli” will be available on online stores worldwide on June 5, and at all record bars nationwide on June 6.
