According to Rappler, the named that have been chosen came from thousands of submissions to a contest that PAGASA organized in 1999. Then, a new list a replaced a line-up of Filipina names like “Huaning” and “Rosing” which were noticeably ending with “ng”.

Now, here is the list of the names that will be given to the tropical cyclones entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this 2016.

PAGASA already reserved some 10 more names in case the names of for the tropical cyclones were all used. The agency expects about 7 to 17 tropical cyclones to pass the Philippines from May to October.

As seen in the list of the names for to be given, there is no name that starts with the letter “X”.

According to the article, there are four sets of typhoon names used every four years.

These names were also being decommissioned when the named tropical cyclone reached atleast 300 casualties or the damage to agriculture and infrastructure reached P1 billion.

Example of decommissioned names include the Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 and the Severe Tropical Storm Ondoy in 2009.
