Laurel, Teodoro Decline Duterte’s Offer
Lyceum of the Philippines University official Peter Laurel and former Defense Secretary Gilberto ‘Gibo’ Teodoro Jr. have declined the offer of Presumptive President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte in joining him in his administration.
Recently, Presumptive President Duterte said that Gibo Teodoro had “begged off” from the position of defense secretary, a position he held during the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Duterte considers retired military man for the post, though he has not yet to convince the person to accept the offered position.
Peter Laurel, former Batangas Vice Governor and the current President of the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas and Laguna, also turned down the offer as the head of the Department of Education.
Presumptive President Duterte is now in search to replace Laurel, a son of former senator Sotero Laurel and grandson of former president Jose Laurel.
He is also open for Filipinos who are working abroad to join his administration.
There are more than 30 boxes of resumes submitted to the screening committee according to sources.
He is also quick to point out that all of his decisions with regards to the appointment of Cabinet members and other officials are his alone.
“I decide on my own and nobody dictates to me,” he said. “It is my own decision.”
Here are the list of those who have agreed to join the Duterte administration: former agriculture secretary Carlos Dominguez, who will head the Department of Finance; Alfonso Cusi, Department of Energy; Silvestre Bello III, Department of Labor and Employment; Arthur Tugade, Department of Transportation and Communications; Mark Villar, Department of Public Works and Highways; and Emmanuel Piñol, Department of Agriculture.
