Jaclyn Jose was surprised by the Best Actress award at Cannes.
Veteran actress Jaclyn Jose won the Best Actress award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for her role in the movie “Ma’ Rosa” which was directed by award-winning director Brillante Mendoza.
The acclaimed actress went emotional as she gave her acceptance speech. She also thanked the jury members and Mendoza.
“I’m at a loss for words! I am so surprised and moved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the Jury members. I thank the director Brillante Mendoza, whose instructions I simply followed,” she said.
She also shared the award to his co-stars and to the Filipino people.
“I would also like to share this recognition to all the Filipinos who are here now… to my countrymen, to the Philippines,” she continued.
The awards night was held on Sunday May 22 in France (Monday morning May 23 in the Philippines).
Jaclyn Jose took the stage with his director and daughter Andy Eigenman, who was also one of the cast members of the film. The young actress recently made headlines after she was included in the best dressed list along with other foreign stars.
“Ma’ Rosa” also stars Felix Roco, Jomari Angeles, Julio Diaz, Ruby Ruiz, Neil Ryan Sese and Maria Isabel Lopez.
The 52-year-old actress was the first Filipina to bring home the award from the Cannes Film Festival.
Jose previously worked with Mendoza in the 2008 film “Masahista” as one of the entries of the same film festival. The movie won Mendoza the Best Director award.
