The son of Sen. Cynthia Villar and former Speaker and housing magnate Manny Villar, Las Pinas Rep. Mark Villar confirmed on Tuesday that he has accepted the offer made by the presumptive president of the Republic of the Philippines, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City.
The reelected congressman from Las Pinas released an official statement to the media that says “I confirm that presumptive President Rody Duterte asked me to be his DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) Secretary and after consulting with my family and constituents, I have decided to humbly accept his offer,” Villar said.
Rep. Mark Villar initially wanted to run for the Senate race but backed out the race and instead sought reelection in the May 9, 2016 national elections. Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte met with the family of Manny Villar on Monday night during the NP and PDP-Laban signing of agreement supporting the new president.
With the offer to become Public Works Secretary under the Duterte Presidency, Rep. Mark Villar will asks for a substitute to take his place in the congressional district of La Pinas. Before Villar was elected as congressman of Las Pinas he served as Presiden to of Crown Asia Corp.
During the stint of Rep. Mark Villar in Congress, he served as chairman of the Committee on Trade and Industry, as well as vice chairman of the Committees on Overseas Workers Affairs, Science and Technology and Labor and Employment.
