One of the Philippines most prominent religious sect known in the entire country having their own “block vote” during national elections, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) has denied it issued a letter signed by Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo endorsing the presidential bid of the tough-talking mayor of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
According to the official statement of Iglesia ni Cristo spokesperson Edwin Zabala, the viral letter of endorsement for Mayor Duterte, which has been circulating online for the past few days did not come from the religious sect particularly from their leader, INC Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo.
The viral letter of endorsement circulated online particularly in the groups belonging to supporters of the leading presidential candidate Mayor Rody Duterte. The INC said that they would file charges against those who forged Manalo’s signature.
The denial of the INC religious group comes after the visit of President Benigno S. Aquino III at the Iglesia ni Cristo headquarters in Tandang Sora, Quezon City on Monday, May 2, 2016.
The Iglesia ni Cristo will release their final endorsement of who among the presidential candidate to support in the hotly-contested presidential election later this week.
Some of the former Presidents of the Republic of the Philippines endorsed and win the top national post were Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Aside from the above-mentioned presidential candidates the group also endorsed former presidents of the Republic of the Philippines. One of the most prominent businessman in the country, Danding Cojuangco was endorsed by the group but he failed on his bid to become president.
