In a statement released online by Bank of the Philippine Islands they noted that “Our internal investigation reveals that there has been no such breach,” as they stated also that they are committed to protecting client information. The bank spoke up and denied the allegations that it has breached client confidentiality.

The statement of bank came after a call for bank run from the supporters of Mayor Rody Duterte after Vice Presidential candidate Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV showed a table with the supposed credit transactions of Mayor Duterte with Bank of the Philippine Islands, involving about P211 million.

According to Jose Teodoro Limcaoco, managing director and chief financial officer of Ayala Corporation, who owns the bank, BPI did not violate any laws. In a statement to the media he was quoted as saying “I don’t know where Sen. Trillanes got his information, but the graphic posted by the [Philippine Daily] Inquirer showing alleged credits, that is not a BPI document,” Limcaoco revealed.

Aside from Sen. Trillanes who keeps on attacking Mayor Duterte, the camp of Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Mar Roxas showed a photo of bank receipt from BPI exposing the account Duterte and his daughter Sara Duterte. The bank receipt from PDI also showed the same results with Mar Roxas.

The bank officer Limcaoco counters Mar Roxas Sen. Trillanes statement by saying that “The deposit slip shown by Mar or the Inquirer is not a unique thing. All banks will show the name of the depositor on a deposit slip,” Limcaoco said.

Bank of the Philippine Islands said it continues to have one of the most highly regarded data protection practices in the industry. “We are committed to protecting client information and preserving the trust bestowed on us by our clients all these years,” BPI said.
