“No loud cheer, no envelope?”
Presidential candidate Mar Roxas “vehemently condemned” organizers of his campaign sortie in Pikit, North Cotabato last March 31, 2016 who allegedly distributed cash in envelopes.
“I vehemently condemn these actions. This is not part of my platform, program, or actions. To me, this is wrong,” the Liberal Party standard-bearer quoted in a statement he posted on social networking site, Facebook.
According to Inquirer.net, Mar Roxas camp will investigate the local organizers of his campaign sortie who allegedly gave envelope in return of making loud cheers from the crowd.
“I have not seen the video but if it indeed happened, we will find out who the organizers were and we will make them realize my view that this is wrong and must stop,” the former Interior secretary said.
North Cotabato District Representative Jesus Sacdalan clarified in a statement that the distribution of envelopes was just a “bad joke” as announced by the emcee at the time.
“Gusto kong linawin ang isyu ng video kung saan nagbitiw ng hindi magandang biro ang emcee tungkol sa mga envelope. Walang basehan ang birong ito at hindi ito ayon sa sinusundan naming patakaran. We do not engage in that kind of politics,” Sacadalan said.
In the viral video which was uploaded by KutangBato Vlogger, it showed the emcee telling the audience that they won’t get an “envelope” unless there would be a loud cheer.
“Mahina dito ba, wala kayong envelope ha,” the emcee said. “Mahina d’yan sa likod, wala kayong envelope mamaya sige” he added. The audience can also be heard in the video practicing their chant, “Oras na, Roxas na!”
