North Cotabato Gov. Mendoza Faces Corruption Charges for Using Government Funds

The controversial governor of North Cotabato who made headlines earlier on various news site that she will block all donations which is intended for the protesting farmers in Kidapawan City, she is now facing some corruption charges for using government funds to buy diesel worth P2.4 million from a gasoline station allegedly owned by her mother.

The Office of the Ombudsman released a statement on Friday, April 8 that it has found probable cause to charge North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza with 3 counts of violation of the anti-graft and corrupt practices law.

According to an article posted by Rappler, the case against the North Cotabato governor will be filed before the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan.

The Office of the Ombudsman noted that the Gov. Mendoza approved the release of P2.4 million from provincial coffers to pay for 49,526.72 liters of fuel used during a two-day road repair project, the Ombudsman said. She did not conduct any bidding and instead contracted the Taliño Shell Station, which is owned by her mother, the Ombudsman added.

The controversial governor of North Cotabato is now facing accusations that she neglected the farmer’s demand for food and aid in the province where she ruled for the past few years. The governor made some headlines and caught the attention of national media when the protest by farmers in Kidapawan City went out of control.
