For most Roman Catholic Filipinos, the Holy Week celebration is considered as a period of reflection and atonement, it is a period of celebration for the new life most Christians received worldwide but what will happen if some political personality uses the celebration as part of his campaign strategy.
This is what happened to a member of the ruling Liberal Party of the Philippines in Iloilo who was seen lifting a cross in public during the Lenten season. The photo which was shared on social media, became one of the trending topics on Facebook and on other social networking site.
Instead of getting the attention positively for his deeds of carrying the cross in public areas, the politician became an instant celebrity and got the attention he deserved from netizens, the only problem is that the attention he received is indeed bad for his publicity.
Some netizens who saw the viral photo reacted that what the Mayor did and construed was just a “tactic” to gain’s people’s sympathy especially that the highly anticipated May 2016 national election is fast approaching.
