The tough talking mayor of Davao City and presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senate Majority Floor Leader Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano said on Thursday that they are strongly pushing for the lifting of the bank secrecy law to prevent public officials from amassing billions in stolen wealth from the public and the government coffers.
Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano was quoted as saying “In the Philippines, when you steal a small amount, you will land in jail; when you rob the country by a huge sum, you get elected as senator or vice president,” Cayetano said as he lambasts Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is facing a string of corruption and plunder charges.
The 45-year-old Alan Peter Cayetano stated that the country’s bank secrecy law, considered as one of the strictest in the world, has become a major stumbling block in resolving any corruption and money laundering cases in the public sector.
The Vice Presidential bet from Taguig also revealed that politicians like Vice President Jejomar Binay can easily dip their hands on the nation’s coffers, because the country’s legal system allowed such politician to conceal their true wealth through dummy accounts.
