The tough-talking Mayor of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who is now running for President of the Philippines and considered as one of the most popular presidential candidate on social media issued an apology for cussing Pope Francis. The statement of Mayor Duterte was released during his courtesy call to Bacolod City Bishop Vicente Navarra.

During a courtesy call of Mayor Duterte to Bacolod Bishop, he asked the Roman Catholic official for forgiveness on his previous statement against Pope Francis. Bishop Vicente Navarra welcomed Mayor Duterte and stated that the issue of the mayor’s cussing has died down.
In a closed-door meeting between Bishop Navarra and Mayor Duterte, the bishop asked the mayor about his plans once elected as the President of the Philippines, according to a source closed to both parties but the details of the talks were not released to the media.
Thousands of volunteers and supporters of Mayor Duterte and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano waited Mayor Duterte outside the bishop’s palace in Bacolod City and also showcased their support by lining up during the parade of the Du-Cay tandem going to the SMX Convention Center, where Mayor Duterte gave a speech and met with multisectoral leaders.
Mayor Dutete’s visit to Bacolod City also caught the media’s attention when a reported death threat against the mayor leaked online. According to Mayor Duterte, he is not afraid of death threats because he had been receiving several threats before.
