The Burmese Cardinal paid a visit to personally meet the prisoners and share to them a message of hope. More than 800 inmates of the CPDRC performed a heartfelt dance number before the Burmese cardinal sent by Pope Francis himself to represent him at the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC).
Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, archbishop of Rangoon, Burma, was impressed and described their dance as a “love letter sent directly to our hearts.” The cardinal urged the world’s most popular inmates not to give up hope while in jail, saying that the Eucharist has always been about hope.
The prisoners who joined the performance were clad in their signature orange uniform, red sneakers and white gloves, as they opened their 10-minute performance with Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us.”
The dancers in front wore the yellow shirts with the logo of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress printed in front. The Cebu dancing inmates gained international prominence in 2007 when their video dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” went viral on YouTube.
