Presidential candidate and the country’s No. 1 senator during the last national elections, Sen. Grace Poe was disqualified to run for President according to the decision released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division.

Grace Poe Sen.

The Comelec First Division voted 2-1 in favor of the disqualification case against Sen. Grace Poe. The First Division of the Comelec decided to cancel the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for President of independent candidate Sen. Grace Poe.

Comelec Commissioners Luie Guia and Rowena Guanzon voted to cancel Poe’s COC. Commissioner Christian Lim had the lone dissenting vote in the 3-member division of Comelec.

The decision to disqualify Sen. Poe to run for the highest office in the country was made by Comelec as they ruled in favor of petitions filed by University of the East College of Law Dean Amado Valdez, former Sen Francisco Tatad and De La Salle University Professor Antonio Contreras.

Although the decision of the First Division of the Comelec coincides with the decision to disqualify by the Second Division, the legal counsel of Sen. Grace Poe, Atty. George Garcia revealed that they would file a motion for reconsideration on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
