Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte confirmed to the media that it’s all-systems-go for a Duterte-Cayetano tandem in the 2016 national elections after he named Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as his running mate for Vice President. Mayor Duterte told the press that it’s the reason why Sen. Cayetano was always with him and they are appearing together.
Although Mayor Duterte confirmed that his running-mate is Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, he still needs to consult his political party PDP-Laban (Partido Demokratiko-Lakas ng Bayan) on the Duterte-Cayetano tandem.
The tough-talking Mayor of the safest city in the Philippines said he plan to file his Certificate of Candicacy “at the most convenient time for everybody.” The deadline of substitution of candidates by political party will be on or before December 10, 2015.
Mayor Duterte also noted that for those who still doubt his determination to run for President, he said “nothing” can now convince him to withdraw from the race. He stated “The die is cast. I have crossed the Rubicon,” he told reporters during an ambush interview.
The newest member of Philippine presidentiables also dismissed criticism that his disgust over the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) decision on Grace Poe’s disqualification is not a fitting reason to gun for the presidency. He reacted by stating “Anong hindi magandang rason, magkapresidente ka na Amerikano hindi magandang rason? As a matter of principle, hindi ko matanggap ang katarantaduhan na ‘yan,” he said.
