Mall Voting May Save COMELEC Millions of Pesos in Budget

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) revealed to the media during an interview with various news media organization that the agency will spend less and save money if the plan to have mall-based voting in the 2016 national elections pushed through.

According to COMELEC Chairman the savings can be realized because the poll body’s partner-malls are offering the use of their spaces for the elections free of charge.

The COMELEC also cited that the poll body spent close to a million pesos during the 2013 midterms polls just to rendt places owned by private entities.

COMELEC Chairman Bautista was quoted as saying “Did you know that 41 places owned by private entities were used by the Comelec in the 2013 mid-term elections where it paid rent of close to a million pesos? In 2016, the malls are offering their spaces for free,” Bautista said in a text message.

THe Philippine pol body, COMELEC approved in principle the idea of mall voting for next year.
