The Philippines joins the six countries who submitted their bids to host the tournaments that will determine the last remaining slot in the basketball tournament of the 2016 Rio de Janiero Summer Olympics in Brazil. Aside from the Philippines, also bidding for the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers are Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Serbia and Turkey.
The six probable hosts of the FIBA Olympic Qualifier have already submitted their formal bids to the world governing body of international basketball. The Olympic Qualifier was scheduled to held this coming July 4-10, 2016.
According to FIBA, they will choose the three hosts sites on January 19, 2016. There will be six-team tournaments, with the winners to earn an automatic spot for the basketball competition of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
After FIBA decides the site of the 2016 Olympic Qualifier, the basketball governing body will take place a week later.
A total of nine teams have already qualified for the 2016 Games, the team who qualified are the United States, Brazil, Australia, Nigeria, Spain, Lithuania, Venezuela, Argentina and China.
