Bagyong Lando: LPA Spotted by PAGASA East of Luzon

The country’s weather bureau, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned the Filipino public that they are now tracking a Low Pressure Area (LPA) that has chances of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.

According to PAGASA, the LPA was located 2,900 kilometers east of Luzon as of Monday morning, October 12, but it is still too far to affect the country.

The LPA might enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday or Thursday. If the LPA becomes a tropical cyclone, it will be named locally as “Bagyong Lando,” the 12th typhoon to hit the country this year.

PAGASA also noted that at least seven cyclones are still expected to hit the Philippines before the end of 2015.

Aside from the LPA, the weather bureau also noted that the hanging Amihan or Northeast monsoon, associated with the Christmas season, is expected to affect the country next week.
