PNP’s Highway Patrol Group Vowed to Clear EDSA Balintawak from Vendors

The newly assigned Highway Patrol Group (HPG) of the Philippine National Police vowed on Monday that they will clear EDSA from sidewalk vendors to prevent commuters from staying on the road. In an interview with ANC, HPG Spokesperson Supt. Oliver Tanseco clarified his mission to clear EDSA Balintawak.

The HPG Spokesperson was quoted as saying “Sidewalks should be cleared 1.5 meters from the edge… for pedestrians, for everyone. Give us a few more days,” HPG Spokesperson Supt. Oliver Tanseco.

According to Supt. Tanseco, the HPG is mandated by law to clear sidewalks for pedestrians. He noted that is part of the HPG’s suggestion for the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Public Works and Highways to add to their tasking.

The HPG was tasked to ease the traffic in the entire EDSA as part of the Aquino Administration’s effort to save from the losses to the Philippine economy due to the heavy traffic.

Supt. Tanseco also thanked the public for cooperating showing discipline during the HPG’s first day of traffic management on EDSA. The HPG also called on the public to show discipline to improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila.
