Two of the country’s strongest national political parties, the Nacionalista Party (NP) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) are reportedly forming a tactical alliance to support the run for President and Vice President of Senators Grace Poe and Sen. Chiz Escudero in the 2016 national elections.
Billionaire Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr. and Manuel “Manny” Villar expressed their intentions to support both Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero who will be running for President and Vice President respectively as independent candidates in the 2016 national elections.
According to Deputy Speaker Giorgidi Aggabao disclosed during an interview that Cojuangco’s NPC and Villar’s NP were in the middle of discussions to firm up their support for a Poe-Escudero ticket, which is considered by most political analyst as the team to beat.
The Nationalist People’s Coalition has a wide political network in the country, with a total of 2 senators, 47 representatives, 14 governors and 22 city mayors.
The Nacionalista Party, which was taken over by Manny Villar in 2003, has 5 senators, 20 representatives and 7 governors across the country.
Although both political parties, the NPC and NP are eager to support the candidacy of Sen. Grace Poe but the leading senator in the SWS and Pulse Asia survey did not release yet an official statement regarding the latest developments especially with the support of various political parties.
