Broadway star Lea Salonga took it to a social media platform Twitter to air her thought about the celebration of the Independence Day, but it turned out to be a rash tweet for others.
Other Twitter users criticized Salonga’s tweet, which has already been retweeted for 1, 310 times (as of posting), calling it as “stupid” and “self-serving”.
Salonga in her tweet questioned why Philippines celebrate freedom when the country is “not yet debt-free, poverty-free, crime-free or corruption-free.”
While others agreed to the statement of the singer, there are Twitter users who disagreed and left comments on her tweets.
“Our celebration is about being free from colonizers, not being free from the major maladies of the country,” user @kentaryll said.
@gah said “I agree but, hey, we can celebrate the fact you can voice that and not get hauled away to jail!”
Meanwhile, Twitter user @ilda…talk left a solid reminder.
