Former Sen. Panfilo Lacson Disagrees with Duterte-Lacson Tandem in 2016 Election

Former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, one of the country’s most prominent leader during the past few years, is cool to the idea of running with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the upcoming 2016 national elections. Although the former PNP Chief welcomed the idea, but according to him it may be ideal since they have the same core competence.

The former Senator who is known as the lone lawmaker who refused his pork barrel funds given to every members of Congress, noted during an interview with DzMM that Duterte-Lacson tandem might not work for both of them.

Panfilo Lacson was quoted as saying “[Una] baka umusok kaming dalawa…Pangalawa, eh parang isa lang ang dimension, ang core competence namin, parang nalilinya sa iisang aspeto lamang – ito ay sa larangan ng peace and order,” he said.

”Baka sa ibang aspeto, eh baka magkaroon ng maraming kwestyon.”

Both Panfilo Lacson and Mayor Rodrigo Duterte have built a reputation of taking a hardline stance against criminality. The former PNP Chief is being credited for the reforms in the PNP during the Estrada administration while Mayor Duterte is best known for managing Davao City into one of the most peaceful cities in the world during his administration.

The former Senator Panfilo Lacson also added that he is now considering the results of the survey on his presidential bid, but running once again for a Senate seat is the most viable option for him, while Mayor Duterte on his part, he repeatedly rejected the idea of running for President despite repeated calls for his presidential bid.
