If the rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not be pushed through, boxing promoter and former foe Oscar De La Hoya has an opponent for Pacquiao.

De La Hoya, the Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) founder will be pushing for a fight between his boxer Lucas Matthysse from Argentina and Pacquaio after his full recovery from his surgery due to torn rotator cuff.

“The priority for me would be to see [Matthysse] fight someone like Manny Pacquiao next year,” said De La Hoya in “Boxing Scene”.

In April, Matthysse won a majority decision against Ruslan Provodnikov, Pacquiao’s former training partner.

In a separate report from “Boxing Scene”, former light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi thinks Matthysse would be a perfect comeback fight for the Filipino boxer.

“Matthysse would be dynamite. I think Manny can comeback with – I don’t want to say a soft opponent but a pretty good fighter. A solid guy, then move to one of those big fights,” he said.

Pacquiao who lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather in their May 2 bout underwent surgery for his shoulder, now back in the Philippines.
