The house bill filed by Nueva Ecija Rep. Magnoloa Rosa Antonio-Nadres, closer to becoming a law, seeks to rename the highway after the late President to “bestow distinct honor [on her]” and “perpetuate [her]” memory”.

“If favorably passed into law, it will constantly remind us of the noble deeds of the late President, especially for the poor, and inspire our people to emulate her example of selfless service to the nation while her exceptional courage and leadership gave hope and united the Filipino people at a critical time in the country’s history,” Antonio-Nadres said in the bill’s explanatory note.

The 84-kilomoter NLEX connecting Metro Manila to the provinces in Central Luzon, was previously called as the Manila North Diversion Road and Manila North Expressway.

The tollway is maintained by the Manila North Tollways Corportaion.

Meanwhile, two more bills were proposed earlier.

Bohol Rep. Rene Lopez Relampagos filed in 2011 the House Bill 5422 seeking to rename EDSA to Cory Aquino Avenue.

Pampanga Rep. Joseller Guiao also filed a proposal in 2013 to change Clark Internation Airport to Corazon C. Aquino Airport.
