Warm Welcome Set by House for Pacquiao Homecoming

World boxing icon and Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao will be given a warm welcome and possibly another citation for a good fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., by the House of Representatives as said by Speaker Feleciano Belmonte Jr.

“We’re happy that he’s going to be back,” Belmonte said, adding it was good that Pacquiao’s shoulder injury did not appear to be serious.

The house speaker also added Thursday that he hopes the congressman will find more time for his legislative duties while recovering from his recent surgery.

Pacquiao is the acting chairman of the House committee on overseas workers affairs and is expected to lead in an inquiry into the case of Mary Jane Veloso.

Belmonte, who earlier said it could be too early for the boxer to retire, also said that the House might come up with a citation for Pacquiao.

Though Pacquiao lost via unanimous decision to Mayweather, the Filipino boxer remained the peoples’ champ.

And for Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, the fight is worth a rematch.

“I still believe that he (Pacquiao) is the champion. A rematch, why not? It’s another fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather,” Estrada said.
