Philippine team has to volley for win this time against Chine Taipei after failure of putting blemish to Japan’s record.
But the Filipinas’ efforts weren’t enough as they were shrugged off by their strong contented putting them in the last of its braket with a 21-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-19 defeat Tuesday night in the Asian Women’s Under-23 Championship at Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Though Philippine team was able to raise the first set with a close-fight, the Taiwanese assured wins in the remaining sets leaving the opponent its third loss in Pool E.
The Taiwanese with their win advanced to the No. 2 spot in the pool with the advantage from the inexperience Filipinos.
Unable to sustain a fiery start, the Filipinos’ inexperience came to the fore as the Taiwanese coasted in the last three sets to seize the No. 2 spot in Pool E. The Taiwanese will face South Korea in the quarterfinals.
“This is a learning process for us,” said PH coach Roger Gorayeb. “I’m just happy the other teams in Asia are taking notice of us.”
Unable to sustain their fiery start, team captain Alyssa Valdez admitted they weren’t strong enough.
“I think we really tried our best in today’s game, but the breaks of the game didn’t go our way,” said Valdez.
The defeat forced the Filipinas to a knockout meeting with unbeaten China in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
