Senate President Senator Franklin Drilon announced to the mediat that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas will be the Presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of the Philippines in the upcoming 2016 Presidential Elections. Although there’s no official statement yet from the entire party, the LP’s Vice Chairman stated that the party fully supports Mar Roxas.
The DILG Secretary trailed behind Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Grace Poe in the latest survey on possible presidential contenders conducted by one of the counry’s most popular survey agency, the Social Weather Station (SWS).
When Sen. Franklin Drilon was asked on what to do to improve the current rating of the DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, Drilon said that the Liberal Party will explain to the public “the need for the next administration to continue the reform process that has beguan and has been implemented on many aspects, the continuity of the polticis of good governance.” Drilon stated.
The Senate President clarified that the above statement will be emphasize in explaining to the Filipino people why Secretary Mar Roxas should be the next president.
The 57-year-old Mar Roxas, the son of former President Manuel Roxas once declared his candidacy for the 2010 elections but he backed out and run for Vice President instead after the former Senator and now President Noynoy Aquino declared his intentions to run for President.
