The President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Benigno Simeon Aquino III blames the former head of states of the country for the delay to repair the Lullutan Bridge in Ilagan, Isabela. According to the President it took twenty (20) years for the government to repair the bridge damaged during the year 1995.
Pres. Aquino led the inauguration of the 500.6-lineal meter bridge on Tuesday, March 7, 2015, wherein he blamed the previous administrations failure to repair the bridge after it was destroyed by debris during the onslaught of typhoon “Rosing.”
During the President’s speech he told the audience that he can’t help but ask, why were our fellow Filipinos made to suffer for 20 years. Pres. Aquino also pointed out that his mother was not among those who should be blamed for delay.
Althought the President did not mention other names aside from the President’s mother, Pres. Aquino seemed to be referring to former President Fidel V. Ramos, who served from 1992 to 1998, and other former chief executives.
According to President Aquino, if the project was completed decades ago, it could have benefited hundreds of thousands of Filipinos who had to travel and transport their goods from within the neighboring towns of Isabela province. DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson, also noted that the Lullutan Bridge has a loading capacity of 20 tons, and costs around P772.924 million.
