Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte denied allegations and reports posted on various news media organization particularly from the Visayas and Mindanao that he plans to run for President in the upcoming 2016 national elections. The mayor of Davao City clarified during an interview in Dagupan city that he never said it in a very categorical way.
The 69-year-old Rodrigo Duterte noted that he did not announced any decision to run for higher position in the next national election. He even noted that there is no changes on his decision to retire from politics right after his terms of office as Mayor of Davao ends.
According to previous reports, the mayor of Davao was quoted as saying “If you think I am the only one who can save this nation, look for me, if I am not there, look for me if you can.” Due to his statement various reports emerge that he will run for President in the year 2016.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte clarified further that he has no plans of running for President in the upcoming presidential elections of 2016.
The Mayor of Davao City is best known for his leadership in the city as he set a precedent by designating deputy mayors that represented the Lumad and Moro in the city government.
Mayor Duterte initiated a summit for the Federal Form of government in which he called on all responsible leaders in the island, to forge a well-informed, united front, so they could craft a collective plan of action of Mindanao’s true identity reflective of what its people and tribes truly wish and aspire for.
