LPA (Bagyong Amang) Strengthened into a Tropical Depression (January 14)

The Low Pressure Area (LPA) which was spotted east of the country has strengthened into a Tropical Depression and once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it will be named as Bagyong “Amang,” according to the latest weather bulletin issued by PAGASA on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

The Tropical Depression (Bagyong Amang) has a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, and was observed 1,610 kilometers east of Mindanao and moving West Northwest at 19 kph, as noted by PAGASA.

According to PAGASA, they expect the Tropical Depression to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

The arrival of Bagyong Amang is expected to coincides with the highly anticipated arrival of Pope Francis who is scheduled to arrive at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City at around 5:45 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2015.

Although the newest weather disturbance to hit the country and the first typhoon to possibly make a landfall in the Philippines this year, are not yet in the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but the elongated edge of the tropical depression is already affecting some parts of Northern Mindanao and Visayas.

PAGASA forecast that rains will be experience in the areas of CARAGA Region and Eastern Visayas on Wednesday with light to moderate rains with possible occurrence of thunderstorms. The weather bureau also noted that there’s a possibility that the tropical depression could still change course and hit the Bicol Region.
