The “Queen City of the South,” Cebu City now holds the newest Guinness World Record for having the largest Zumba class ever recorded. The achievement of the Filipinos is the newest record recorded from the Philippines by the world’s most popular book of world records, Guinness.

The “Largest Zumba Class” was headed by the Zumba Instructors Netwok (ZIN) of Cebu, featuring Zumba dancers from all walks of life as they joined together on Saturday, October 18, 2014. The Cebu Zumba dancers was able to beat India’s world record for having the largest Zumba class ever held.
According to the official announcement of the organizers, a total of 8,232 participants from all over Visayas turned up for the event. The group was able to break India’s world record during the year 2012. India’s record features a total of 6,600 participants on their own version of largest Zumba class.
The Cebuanos and other people from the Visayas Regions also tried to break another world record, the largest pink ribbon formation for breast cancer awareness, but the group failed to break India’s record.
Cebu’s largest pink ribbon formation drew a total of 6,611 participants, which were not enough to break India’s record of 6,847 participants. According to Cebu City Mayor, Michael Rama, the said even is a motivational steps towards promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle among his constituents.
The proceeds of the record-breaking largest Zumba class event will go to the classroom rehabilitation program for schools in Northern Cebu, which was affected last year by super typhoon Yolanda.
