This is now known to be Sousa Sahulensis. It is an Australian humpback dolphin and considered to be the fourth specie of dolphin being recognized.

The director of Wildlife Conservation Societys Ocean Giants Program, Dr Howard RosenBaum said that its recognition or naming also corresponds a plan for its protection.

The said dolphin differs from other humpbacks because of its number of teeth, geographic distribution, over all length and its vertebrae.

This said specie joins the other three closely specie of dolphins which is the Atlantic humpback dolphin (Sousa teusziiz), Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis) and the Indian Ocean humpback dolphin (Sousa plumbea).

It’s name derived from the underwater shelf between northern Australia and southern New Guinea which is the Sahul Shelf.

However, survival of this specie is said to be dependent on the effort exerted on protecting the humpback dolphins and other coastal dolphins.

Actually there is no current population for the said new recognized specie of dolphin. Some danger in their lives will be caused by accidents captured by the fishermen, vessel collisions and any other coastal related activities.

Indeed, another specie was been introduced to us. Perhaps, its just one of the many coastal species that are not yet seen and discovered by human.
