Michael Martinez will again try to make the Philippines proud when he will be competing in the Grand Prix of Figure Skating this October.
Michael Martinez is a Filipino figured skater who placed fifth in the 2013 World Junior Championship. He was the first skater from Southeast Asia to qualify in Olympics.
Martinez will be competing again representing not only the Philippines but also the Southeast Asia. Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a an series of International Union.
He will skate from October 24-26, 2014 at Hilton Honors Skate America in Chicago.
It was reported before that Martinez will be supported by SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and the Philippine Skating Union. He first skate in the skating rink of the mall of SM.
According to the President of the SM Prime Holdings, Inc. Mr. Hans Sy, “Michael Martinez is a homegrown talent and a role model for today’s youth as he sets his sights even higher. We fully support his dreams to continue to represent the Philippines and to place in the next Winter Olympic.”
He will be competing with the worlds top skaters. Specifically, they are Tatsuki Machida of Japan, Denis Ten of Kazakhstan, Jeremy Abbott of the USA, and Artur Gachinski of Russia.
Martinez is ranked number 27th in the world of figure skaters. Martinez is just 19 years old at the moment. He admits that he lacks in financial aspects that’s why he is afraid that he could stop his skating career. However, he was already supported now.
