The first valid impeachment complaint against President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III was endorsed by the Makabayan bloc of Congressmen in the Lower House of Congress of the House of Representatives on Monday, July 21, 2014.
The impeachment complain accuses President Aquino of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust. A total of 28 individuals signed the impeachment complaint headed by the three Congressmen namely Bayan Mun representatives Neri Colmenares and Carlos Isagani Zarate and Anakpawis representative Fernando Hicap.
Among the 28 individuals who signed the impeachment complaint against the President includes Bayan Muna secretary-general Renato Reyes, Jr.; COURAGE President Ferdinand Gaite; VACC founding chairman Dante Jimenez, retired Arcbishop Oscar V. Cruz, Bishop Emergencio D. Padillo of the UCCP, Bishop Joselito Cruz of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, former Congressman Liza Maza, and whistleblower Sandra Cam among among others.
The impeachment complaint is in connection with the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program of the Aquino Administration which the Supreme Court declared several acts as “unconstitutional,” but President Aquino stated earlier that the unanimous verdict was difficult to accept and understand.
