Fr. Romeo Obach, the controversial priest in Cebu was suspended by the Redemptorist Congregation with his ministerial duties, the priest became the hottest topics on social media after he berated a single mother publicly during a baptism ceremony in Cebu.
Although Fr. Romeo Obach of the Sacred Heart Chaplaincy in Jagobiao, Mandaue City, already apologized to the 17-year-old single mother, by writing an official letter intended for the single mom and her family, the victim are determined to press charges against the priest.
The humiliation of the single mom was posted on Facebook by no less than her mother, the video went viral immediately on Facebook earning the ire of netizens, who shared the video and commented negatively to the priest’s gesture during the ceremony. The video was recorded by the 12-year-old sister of the unwed mom.
Meanwhile, the single mom noted during an interview with local press in Cebu City, that right now she is still not ready to forgive the priest after the priest decided to gave his public apology.
In an interview, the young mother stated that Fr. Obach did not know the suffering she went through upon learning she was pregnant and her boyfriend ditched her with another girl. The 17-year-old mother revealed that she even attempted suicide but her sister rescued her.
According to the statement issued by the Redemptorist Congregation, they suspended the ministerial duties of Fr. Obach pending an internal investigation and (–foul word(s) removed–)sment. The suspension of ministerial duties of a priest means that the prelate cannot say Mass and administer the sacraments, according to retired Caloocan Bishop Deogracias.
