Online netizens prayed for Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s immediate recovery from lung cancer as thousands of Filipinos started the most-talked about topic online, particularly on micro-blogging site Twitter. The hashtag “#MiriamFight” dominated the Twitter trending topics online.

A few minutes after the 69-year-old senator announced in a press conference on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 that she was diagnosed with a Stage 4 Lung Cancer discovered by her doctors just last week.
One of the topics which dominated the Twitter trending topics not only in the Philippines but worldwide is the hashtag “MiriamFight,” the other topics which dominated the Philippine trending topics which are also related to the Senator are “Stage 4,” and “Senator Miriam Santiago” landed in the top trending topics in the Philippines.
Aside from the concerned netizens who took to Twitter as they pray for Senator Miriam Santiago’s immediate recovery, her fellow Senators also posted their well wishes to the senator.
Sen. Sonny Angara tweeted the following: “We wish senator Miriam good health and possibly recovery from the cancer she disclosed today, GET WELL PO. Ma’am!!”
Senator Pia Cayetano on her part lauded how Sen. Santiago remained calm despite the shocking announcement. She tweeted “Listening to Sen Miriam’s live prescon where she announces she has lung cancer. Sen Miriam remains calm and upbeat about beating her lung cancer. Says she just needs to take 2 pils a day,” she said.
