A Hong Kong textbook which defines Filipinos as domestic helper (DH) is currently making rounds online garnering attention from various Pinoy forums.
The primary school textbook’s page entitled “Racial Harmony” draws massive scrutiny following its offensive stereotype for Filipino citizens and other nationalities.

I am British, I am an English Teacher.
I am Filipino, I am a domestic helper in Hong Kong.
I am Japanese, I have a sushi restaurant in Hong Kong.
I am Chinese, Shanghai is my hometown.
I am Indian, “I study in an international school.
According to ABS-CBNnews.com, the news about negative stereotype among Filipinos broke out in an article published by Hongwrong blog, which is run by a British activist named Tom Grundy.
Another Primary 4 textbook published by Singaporean Educational Publishing House Ltd. entitled “The Wonderful World” has a page “We are a Family” where students were ask which “race” white, black, brown or yellow people belong to and then define their “common characteristics.”
“Multiculturalism is now studied at primary level in Hong Kong schools, yet an SCMP story this week revealed that ethnic minority children are being ‘belittled and stereotyped’ in Hong Kong schools,” Asia-Pacific Human Rights Information Center said.
“Meanwhile, the UN has expressed concern about support provided to ethnic minorities in learning Chinese, as currently HK has a ‘lingual apartheid’ system where minorities are taught in separate schools,” it added.
