Filipino figure skater Michael Christian Martinez has won a gold medal in the 23rd Triglav Trophy International figure skating competition in senior’s division on Sunday (Monday in Philippines) in Jesenice, Slovenia.
The lone-Filipino athlete on the recently concluded 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia has bested other six participants in the final round of the competition with 195.13 points.
17-year-old Michael Christian Martinez has topped the figure skating event after finishing first in short and free program of figure skating senior’s division.
Michael Christian Martinez also confirmed his winning streak via his Facebook account: “I Thank God for this blessing- another gold medal in senior event,” Michael Christian Martinez wrote.
“It was actually difficult for all of us because the 30 minutes practice sessions were scheduled a day before, and no more practices during the competition days. I’m very happy [I] made it to first place,” he further added.
On the other hand, Filipino-American skater Samantha Cabiles failed to reign on the competition after finishing in the sixth place of junior ladies division with 100.04. The even was ruled by Elizabet Tursynbayeva from Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, Michael Christian Martinez who won on the prestige competition was followed by Keiji Tanaka and Ryuju Hino from Japan finishing second and third respectively with 89.83 and 183.06 points.
Philip Harris from Great Britain landed on the fourth place with 174.32 points while June Hyoung Lee from Korea finished on the fifth place with 173.16 total score.
Mario-Rafael Ionian from Austria landed on the sixth place with 158.94 points while Sondre Oddvoll Boe from Norway was placed on the last spot with 146.27 points.
