Australia Donates P1.2 Billion & Manpower to Philippine Typhoon Victims

The national government of Australia increased its contribution to P1.2 billion (A$30 million) for the relief and recovery efforts in the areas affected by super typhoon Yolanda as announced by the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

The Philippine neighbor, Australis, that hosts thousands of Filipinos made an additional P820 million (A$20 million) donation after their government made an immediate response of P15.5 million (A$390,500) as announced earlier by Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop but they increased it to P410 million (A$10 million).

The additional funds from the Australian government will be used to address the serious nutrition, child health and protection needs, purchase emergency foods and provide logistics support and non-food items. Aside from the donation made by the Australian government their Australian Defense Force provide water purification systems and power generators to Tacloban City.

Australia’s further contribution will include:

  • P530 million (A$13 million) to the United Nations Flash Appeal;
  • P530 million (A$13 million) to be provided through Australian non-government organizations and their partners on the ground for immediate life-saving (–foul word(s) removed–)istance;
  • P82 million (A$2 million) for the urgent deployment of an Australian medical (–foul word(s) removed–)istance team (AusMAT);
  • P41 million (A$1 million) for non-food items such as tarpaulins, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, water containers and health and hygiene kits to (–foul word(s) removed–)ist families affected by this disaster; and
  • P41 million (A$1 million) to be provided to the Australian Federal Police to provide disaster management specialists.

  • AusMAT personnel which includes 12 doctors, 14 nurses, 3 paramedics, radiographer, pharmacists, 6 logisticians.
